You might believe that suffering from panic attacks is simply one component of a general anxiety disorder, and yet there is a specific type of panic disorder which is looked at as a separate thing, with certain characteristics that distinguish it as a separate disorder. Yet it involves careful diagnosis in relation to definite criteria since the profound panic attacks related to this disorder can also be problems associated with other issues. Therefore, before the right diagnosis can be made and treatment begun, a physician will have to rule out other problems, like post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and other phobias.
